Zach Harris

Zach Harris

by Frank Daniels IV || Executive Producer

Zach Harris wants to bring people together, or “spark the love,” as he likes to say. Inspiration began at home. His father was a trumpeter during his time at NC A&T University, and his passion carried through to his family. Harris grew up playing drums, his brother plays piano, his sister plays bass and his mother sings. Together they created a space for love in their family.

As he grew into adulthood, he began volunteering for Aberdeen Fire & Rescue. In 2017, Harris graduated from the Fire Academy and began working for the department full time. Music remained important in his life. He used it as a solace. It was a way to decompress and reset from the stress inherent as a first responder.

During that new stage in his life, the spark ignited by his father became a blaze. He heard the call of the saxophone, and saved up money in his new job to buy one. Then he taught himself how to play. The same spirit that brought him to help people for his job, pushed him to begin playing in public. He knew the music could heal others like it continued to heal him. Which is why he didn’t stop there.

Harris continued to learn. After acquiring DJ gear, he began practicing, picking up tips and tricks where he could, mostly from YouTube. He searched for gigs, because as anyone will tell you, the best way to learn something new is by doing it.

With his newfound skills, Harris wanted to create an experience of his own. The love and connection that he saw whenever he performed could grow. That led him to create the first annual adult prom in 2022. In many ways it’s the culmination of his passions. He creates a space for people to fall in love again (or for the first time) and make memories that can last a lifetime.

You can see Zach Harris a.k.a The Sax Doctor a.k.a. DJ Saxy spreading the love and connection all over Moore County. Whether it’s helping newlyweds celebrate their nuptials, allowing people to live their dream prom or bringing down the house from his dj deck, when Harris isn’t out saving lives, he’s out saving souls.
